Why area alone does not count your cuts

Dividing patio area by paver area gives an area equivalent, not a laying schedule. At an edge, a quarter paver can require a whole stock paver if you cannot reuse the remainder. Running bond introduces cut pieces at the staggered edge even where an aligned grid fits neatly.

Our visual paver quantity calculator draws the actual rectangular intersections. It counts each placed piece once and shows full pieces separately from cut pieces. The order assumes one new stock paver per placed piece; it does not optimize leftovers.

The quantity formula

stock = full pieces + cut pieces
extra = ceil(stock × allowance / 100)
order = stock + extra

A 400 × 200 mm patio with 200 × 100 mm pavers and no joint has four full pieces in stack bond. In half-offset running bond it has three full pieces and two half-width cuts: five stock pavers before extras, under our no-reuse rule. A skilled installer might reuse a half; we do not promise that saving.

How much extra should you add?

The 10% starter is editable, not an industry guarantee. It is an extra allowance after the layout already counts cut stock. Do not add a second hidden cut factor. Breakage, small pieces, pallet quantities and future repairs can change your purchase. Confirm with your supplier and installer.

Measure actual paver faces and intended joints, check our edge conventions, then use the material cost calculator to price the order.
